A violent altercation broke out on August 17th at the Rome Youth Detention Center, resulting in multiple youths being assaulted and one inmate facing an aggravated assault charge.

According to officials, Mareece Darrell Adams, 17 of Douglasville, along with two 16-year-old inmates—one from Fulton County and the other from Douglas County—initiated a physical attack on three other youths: a 16-year-old from Gordon County, a 14-year-old from Floyd County, and a 13-year-old from Douglas County. A second 14-year-old inmate from Floyd County was also reportedly targeted.

As facility staff intervened and separated the individuals involved, Davis and the two other alleged instigators reportedly ran to another area and began assaulting a separate youth.

All individuals involved were eventually secured in their rooms—except for one of the minors, who continued to act out following the incident. Authorities say the minor began throwing a trash can around a jail pod, then took it into a shower, filled it with water, and dumped it onto the pod floor, causing further disruption.

Adams is now facing a charge of aggravated assault.

This marks the second time since March that the Rome YDC has seen such violence. Read story below
