(CNN) — Editor’s note: This story contains quotes of abusive language toward Katherine Legge that were released to CNN by her team.

British racing driver Katherine Legge told CNN Sports that she has been inundated with thousands of hateful messages, death threats, vulgar and inappropriate comments across multiple social media platforms since she entered NASCAR in March.

One direct message on X said that she should hang herself, the same account adding in a separate, public, post, “You need to be assassinated.” Another advised her to “swallow a shotgun.”

Initially, she wanted to ignore her trolls and deny them the oxygen of publicity, but after a difficult weekend on the track at Rockingham she decided to speak out.

Speaking exclusively to CNN about the abuse, Legge says that while she welcomes fan engagement online, the amount of vitriol is only getting worse.

“Online bullying is getting more toxic, and I think that somebody needs to call it out,” she said. “It’s shocking to read some of the vile things that people write, there just seems to be this whole online movement where people think that it’s OK to say these things that they would never have the courage to say to people in real life; or absolutely shouldn’t.”

Female athletes have recently spoken out about the threats they have received online. At the conclusion of her college career, the basketball star Angel Reese said tearfully, “I’ve been through so much, I’ve seen so much. I’ve been attacked so many times. Death threats, I’ve been sexualized, I’ve been threatened.” WNBA star Breanna Stewart said that police were investigating homophobic death threats that had been sent to her wife and the French tennis player Caroline Garcia reported comments on X that told her to consider suicide and, “I hope your mom dies soon.”

Legge has observed the abuse that athletes endure in other sports, and even some of the invective that is aimed at male drivers in NASCAR. However, she is currently the only female driver on the circuit, and she suspects that as a result, her treatment is worse.

“I think it’s more prevalent with women in sports, especially with women in male dominated sports, because we stick out more, you know? There is the opinion that we are a gimmick, or we shouldn’t be there because we’re DEI hires and we haven’t earned our spot,” she told CNN.

CNN has seen many of the X posts in which Legge has been targeted for abuse online, ranging from “Please get the f**k out of NASCAR” and “I hope you wreck every car you drive in” to sickening vulgarities that are too offensive to print. Her team say that many more toxic messages have been posted on YouTube and Facebook. It’s a sad fact of modern-day life that Legge has become numb to it.

“It’s just noise,” she explained. “I have a thick skin. It’s not worth my time or energy. I can honestly say it doesn’t phase me one way or the other, because they are people who I would not ask an opinion of. The people I respect, team members, my bosses, my partners, my family, my friends, and those who have been there and done it, are the voices that I listen to.”

She added, “It’s just mind-blowing to me because I would never do it. I would ever go online and try and bring somebody else down to raise myself up and so I feel sorry for them, I guess, is the best way of putting it.”

Legge says she doesn’t think that any of the death threats would seriously be carried out, but NASCAR is providing a security detail for her upcoming races and the sport’s head of security has alerted law enforcement in her hometown of the situation.

Speaking to CNN, NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps described the posts as incredibly upsetting.

“I want to be crystal clear about this, we condemn this behavior. It is unacceptable, this is not appropriate for NASCAR, sports, or the world,” he said.

Phelps also defended Legge against any of her critics who thinks she is somehow undeserving of her place on the track.

“This is a woman who has competed very successfully in all forms of motorsports and we want her here at NASCAR. They can take their opinions and their hate right out of NASCAR, because there’s just no place for it,” he said.

Legge’s two races so far this season have resulted in DNFs (did not finish,) one of which she takes personal responsibility for. At the age of 44, she’s a highly experienced driver, competing in IndyCar, Open Wheel, electric cars and sports cars.

“You name it, I’ve driven it,” she told CNN earlier this year – but she admits she is relatively inexperienced in NASCAR.

She’s been contracted for 11 more races in the Xfinity and Cup series, driving for the Chevrolet-backed teams Jordan Anderson and Live Fast.

“I’m having a great time on these awesome tracks, driving these beasts,” she said with a smile. “I’m hoping to get some results towards the end of the year. All I can do is keep improving and, if they have the capacity, they will change their opinions, and it will die down a little bit. But time will tell.”

Beyond hoping that being a more successful competitor will dampen the online abuse, Legge said the only way to truly extinguish it in society is to make it socially unacceptable.

“The reasonable people in the population think that it’s unacceptable, right? It’s bullying. It’s something that you’re taught as a child isn’t cool,” she said.

“I didn’t set out to be a role model,” she added. “I just set out be a racing driver and with that comes a responsibility.”

Events beyond her control have now forced her to further embrace that responsibility, and she hopes her example will inspire others to speak up or, at the very least, learn how to cope with being bullied.

“I tried to be the best role model that I could be for like, a nine-year-old Katherine, act as a beacon of light and maybe somebody being bullied somewhere, even if it’s just one person, if they see this and they think, ‘OK, I’m gonna ignore it,’ then it’s been worth it,” she said.

Sunday night’s race at Nashville Superspeedway marks the fourth-straight intermediate track race for the NASCAR Cup Series.

In the prior three, my practice FLAGS metric has been a strong predictor of race speed, so there’s no reason to deviate from it too much this time as well.

In addition, you can check out my NASCAR projections in the NASCAR Models on FantasyLabs, complete with floor, ceiling, median, and ownership projections.

My projections, along with Stephen Young’s from RotoGrinders, are available in our new NASCAR DFS package. You can read more about what the package entails here.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is NASCAR-ads-Dayton-1000x400-FantasyLabs.jpg

Let’s not skip the best part — my Perfect% metric — a metric that tells you how often certain racers appear in the optimal lineup when running 10,000 race simulations.

And don’t forget about the tools that FantasyLabs has to offer, like our Lineup Optimizer to effortlessly create up to 300 lineups or our Lineup Builder if you like to hand-build your lineups.

So, without further ado, here’s my strategy guide and NASCAR DFS picks for the Cracker Barrel 600 at Nashville Speedway.

Coca-Cola DraftKings DFS Core Picks

Instead of calling them cash-game picks, I’ll call them core picks, as these are picks I like in all formats. However, it’s important to note that very often core picks tend to go over-rostered in tournaments, so while they should still be used plenty, it may be prudent to sometimes go underweight on these drivers if you think they’ll be significantly over-rostered.

Tyler Reddick ($9800): Reddick ranked No. 1 in practice FLAGS and starts on the second row, so at $9800 he comes in as the best value among the top four drivers in FLAGS.

Denny Hamlin ($10,700): Hamlin was the 1B to Reddick’s 1A in practice and has been the most dominant car on concrete tracks in the Next Gen era. The major major caveat here is that Hamlin is on baby watch, as his fiancée is due to give birth today, so Hamlin could have to leave prior to the race starting or even during the race.

If the coast is clear, Hamlin is a great core play, but given the uncertainty, keep checking the news. Ryan Truex would be his substitute and is listed on DraftKings. Truex, however, would be mostly unplayable, having to drop to the rear of the field at the start of the race despite his official starting spot being Hamlin’s second-place qualifying position, meaning he’s unlikely to dominate and would have to drive through the whole field to win.

Daniel Suarez ($6900): Suarez starts 32nd, which wasn’t a great qualifying effort, but he had much more speed in practice, so I remain hopeful that he can produce something here. Suarez ranked 18th in FLAGS, and in the most recent difficult-to-pass intermediate race at Texas, Suarez finished 10th, which should be around his ceiling.

But starting so far back raises his median and floor too thanks to the place-differential potential, where he’s almost surely moving forward unless he gets in a crash or has a parts failure.

Coca-Cola DraftKings DFS Tournament Picks

The Big Five: In addition to Reddick and Hamlin above, I recommend exposures to William Byron, Ross Chastain, and Chase Briscoe at or near their expected optimal percentages.

These five drivers were the top five in practice FLAGS and all start in the top five as well. I would have dropped off Briscoe and made this a big four given he was a tier down in practice speed from the other four, but since he won the pole he’ll have the dominant track position to start, where he can rack up laps led and fastest laps, and he will have the preferred pit stall as well.

You’ll need to mix and match these five drivers, since we’re likely to have 2-3 dominators in a 300-lap race.

Ryan Blaney ($10,200): Blaney starts 15th thanks to a poor qualifying draw, and his practice times are a bit uncertain when compared to the other top dogs, as he went out in the first practice group that had worse track conditions than the second group where all the top dogs practiced.

But if my FLAGS group adjustment isn’t enough, it’s possible Blaney could be among the best cars, since he was the clearly dominant car in his practice group.

There’s certainly a chance he wins and dominates the middle or latter portions of the race, and he would need to be in a healthy chunk of your DFS lineups in case that happens.

Bubba Wallace ($7000): Wallace starts 12th, and like Blaney he was in the first practice group, so his times could be a bit misleading when comparing to the second practice group.

Again, if that’s the case, Bubba could be faster than his practice lap averages show. I have Wallace 10th in group-adjusted FLAGS, but if the adjustment is too small, he could be even better.

My model has him a shade under 20% to be in the optimal lineup, but his ownership projection is in the low teens.

Punts: Seeing as we have a bunch of strong options at the high-dollar range, punts are in play this week for sure.

John Hunter Nemechek is the best punt play, according to my model. The Legacy Motor Club driver starts 36th, raising his floor massively, but he also has some interesting upside, having pulled off top-10 finishes at Texas and Kansas.

Todd Gilliland is next, and should draw lower ownership than JHN given he starts a spot ahead, practiced a spot worse in FLAGS, and is $200 more expensive, so he could be the “punt pivot.”

And not by model, but by practice FLAGS, Riley Herbst would be the punt option starting 37th. The 23XI Racing rookie actually ranked two spots ahead of Nemechek in practice FLAGS, starts one spot farther back, giving him more place-differential potential, and is $400 cheaper.

LEBANON – Ross Chastain doesn’t know all the details of how a fan got to him on pit road after the May 24 Coca-Cola 600 win in Charlotte and took his winning hat before getting to victory lane.

It happened as Chastain was in his car talking to Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks.

Chastain said he has spoken with NASCAR security for an understanding of what happened. He said the person just “slipped through the cracks.”

“I was a fan not that long ago,” said Chastain, who will race in the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway on June 1. “I’m not saying don’t ask for stuff. Yes, if I could have had the winning hat of somebody when I was a fan, maybe I would have asked.

“I would have to liked to have had it. But just don’t take it. It was too far. I had my hand on the bill saying, ‘No.’ Then it got ripped off my head.”

The hat was eventually retrieved from the fan and given back to Chastain.

Ross Chastain has plenty of watermelons for Nashville NASCAR races

Chastain is pulling double duty in Nashville, running in NASCAR’s Xfinity race and Cup race on May 31 and June 1 respectively.

Don’t worry, though. He has plenty of watermelons for potential celebrations.

Chastain is driving for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Nashville Xfinity Tennessee Lottery 250 and will be in his normal Trackhouse No. 1 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series Cracker Barrel 400 on June 1.

“JRM and Trackhouse both brought watermelons,” Chastain said. “What’s cool are the teams really have bought into that, to having watermelons and getting them, whether its truck drivers, or whoever buys groceries for the hauler.

“Yes, they’ve got watermelons in each of them.”

Chastain is coming off winning the Coca-Cola 600 race in Charlotte a week ago. It’s his first win of the season and first Coca-Cola 600.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — NASCAR’s big weekend in Music City culminated in a celebration Saturday night after Justin Allgaier took the win in the Tennessee Lottery 250, his third in the 2025 season.

The No. 7 Chevrolet led 100 of 188 laps of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.

“Every time we bring our Hellmann’s Mayonnaise Chevy out, it’s always fast, it’s always up at the front, you know, we’re battling for wins,” Allgaier told Nexstar’s WKRN.

He faced challenges in the race, at one point being placed fourth on a restart with 49 laps to go. But after a power move to the inside of the track, he grabbed the lead and held it for the rest of the race.

In second, No. 88 Chevrolet driver Connor Zilisch said he knew his chance for first place was over as soon as Allgaier reached the bottom.

“As soon as he got to the bottom, it was over. I wish I could’ve done something differently, but I really don’t think I could’ve, I just got side drafted back. And once we were side by side, I just didn’t have quite enough grip,” Zilisch said.

Following the race, Allgaier took home his second Gibson guitar, three years after earning his first. Now, he says he has a guitar for each of his two daughters.

The excitement at Nashville Superspeedway continues Sunday at 6 p.m. CDT with the Cracker Barrel 400 NASCAR Cup Series race.

You can catch that race and all Xfinity Series NASCAR races on The CW.

Justin Allgaier improved his resume for “Father of the Year” on Saturday night, earning a second Gibson guitar trophy – one for each of his daughters – for his victory in the Tennessee Lottery 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Allgaier, driving the No. 7 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports, swept all the stages on his way to his third NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the year, his second at Nashville Superspeedway, and the 28th victory of his career, good for ninth all-time. Chevrolet has won 12 of the first 14 Xfinity Series races of the season – a Series first.

“There’s no cooler feeling than to win at a place like this,” said Allgaier in front of the grandstands with fireworks exploding behind the backstretch. “These fans are incredible. I really wanted to get a second guitar. [My daughters] can fight over one of them or both of them.”

By that point his daughters — Harper and Willow — and wife Ashley had run across the infield grass to join Dad at the start-finish line. Both children joined the defending NASCAR Xfinity Series champion in the car as he guided it to Victory Lane, where his car owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. waited to congratulate him.

“It was a really great run,” Earnhardt said. “Justin runs so good here. It’s no surprise to see him up there contending.”

Allgaier led a race-high 101 laps, including the final 48 circuits following a critical pass of Brandon Jones on the inside during the race’s final restart.

“JR Motorsports brought some incredible Chevrolets today,” Allgaier said. “That final restart was the key. Having clean air, and being out front … you have to make the most out of having good days. “This team never gives up. [My pit crew] deserves this more than anything. This [car] was on rails.”

Allgaier, the Xfinity Series points leader, beat rookie Connor Zilisch, his JR Motorsports teammate, to the checkered flag by 1.289 seconds. Sam Mayer was third, followed by Sheldon Creed in fourth and NASCAR Cup Series star Ross Chastain in fifth.

“[Justin] had the clean air at the end and I couldn’t quite get there,” said Zilisch, who led 18 laps. “Really good job by Justin there on that final restart.”

“Overall, we had a really solid day,” said Mayer. “Unfortunately, we didn’t execute on pit road and we got shuffled back on some restarts. Being disappointed in a third-place finish is good long term.”

Allgaier, 38, from Springfield, Illinois, averaged 111.006 mph around the 1.33-mile concrete oval, completing 188 laps in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 9 seconds. Six caution periods took up 39 laps while seven leaders exchanged the lead eight times.

Earlier Saturday, rookie William Sawalich, driving the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, earned his second career pole, with a lap of 155.152 mph (30.86 seconds) during Wilson County Convention and Visitors Bureau Qualifying. Sawalich led 37 laps but finished 35th after losing engine power.

Among other notables, former NASCAR Cup Series drivers Aric Almirola and Harrison Burton finished sixth and 13th, respectively, while Jeffrey Earnhardt placed 20th.

At the end, everyone was looking up at Allgaier, who was soaking in the time with his loved ones — and maybe thinking about where to put the latest family trophy.

“To have my daughters and wife here — these are the moments that are really, really special,” Allgaier said.

Dennis Hauger quickly figured out the best way to avoid potential and real chaos Sunday in the INDY NXT by Firestone Detroit Grand Prix – stay out front.

Pole sitter Hauger, from Norway, led all 45 laps of the race on the streets of downtown Detroit in the No. 28 Rental Group car for his fourth victory in five races this season in the INDYCAR development series. He held off the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car of 2024 series Rookie of the Year Caio Collet by 1.0460 seconds in a one-lap dash for the checkered flag after a restart at the end of Lap 44.

SEE: Race Results

“The tires, they cool down really quickly, so that last lap was sketchy,” Hauger said. “I think I heated up the tires nicely, and we got a good gap after the back straight.

“Super happy with that. We kept it clean, and we got a good win today.”

Hauger expanded his series lead to 38 points over fellow rookie teammate Lochie Hughes, who is the only other driver to win a race this season.

Rookie Juan Manuel Correa earned his career-best finish of third in the No. 39 HMD Motorsports car. His previous best result was 14th in the second race of the Indianapolis road course doubleheader last month.

Series veteran Josh Pierson completed a solid day for HMD Motorsports, which fielded the cars that finished second, third and fourth, with a fourth-place result in the team’s No. 16 machine. Hughes rallied from a late pit stop due to a damaged front wing to round out the top five in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship car.

Just six of the 20 cars in the race finished on the lead lap, as the tight confines of the nine-turn, 1.645-mile temporary circuit on the streets of downtown Detroit induced chaos nearly from the green flag.

At the start, Hauger and Hughes raced side by side into the first turn, with Hauger clinging to the top spot. In Turn 4 on the same lap, the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car of Myles Rowe was sent into a spin due to rear contact from the No. 17 car of teammate Callum Hedge.

That incident spawned a caution period due to a bottleneck that blocked the track and led to an accordion effect of collisions, with nine cars involved and many suffering damage.

Hauger held steady on the restart on Lap 3 and gradually eased away from Hughes and Andretti Global teammate Salvador de Alba in the No. 27 Grupo Indi machine.

De Alba passed Hughes for second place on Lap 5 and stayed within four-tenths of a second of Hauger by Lap 10.

But Hauger expanded his lead to 1.5 seconds by Lap 19 as de Alba, Hughes, Collet and Correa dueled – often side by side – for second through fifth. There was some contact, and the front wings on the cars of Hughes and de Alba were damaged.

The wing damage, which also included rubbing a deep groove into his right front Firestone Firehawk tire, forced de Alba to pit from second place on Lap 24. Hauger had all but checked out up front by then, ahead by 6.5 seconds.

Hughes’ front-wing damage compromised his car’s performance, and Collet passed him for second on Lap 38. Hughes was forced to pit for a front wing change on Lap 39 from third place.

It looked like Hauger was going to canter to the checkered flag, as his lead had reached double digits by Lap 40. But Jordan Missig spun exiting Turn 2 on Lap 41 in the No. 48 Abel Motorsports car, triggering the second and final caution of the race and erasing Hauger’s big lead.

The field lined up for a final restart and one-lap shootout at the end of Lap 44, but Hauger got a big jump at the green and never was threatened by Collet or Correa.

The next INDY NXT by Firestone race is Sunday, June 15 at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis. It’s the first of four oval races this season for the series.
