A new firmware update is rolling out for the Amazfit Bip 6, and it includes a small set of refinements. One feature in particular stands out and it happens to be something that until now was only available on ZeppOS 5.
Update adds a practical gesture and a hint of what’s next
Firmware version 3.1.2.1 clocks in at just under 13MB, but it brings four main updates. Arguably, the most useful is support for double tap to wake the screen. It’s a quick and easy way to check the time or glance at notifications without lifting your wrist or pressing a button. That alone might make the update worth installing.
Beyond that, the rest of the additions feel more incremental. The always-on display (AOD) sees improvements. Brightness is now boosted under strong light, which helps with visibility outdoors. Notifications under AOD now show a status point, making it easier to tell if something’s waiting without fully waking the device.

Support for glove mode has also been added. This is typically useful for colder weather or manual work when touchscreens are harder to use.
What’s notable is that glove mode has so far only been available on ZeppOS 5. That version of the operating system currently runs only on the Amazfit Balance 2, which has launched China recently. Now, the Bip 6 is still running ZeppOS 4.5. So the fact that it’s starting to get elements of version 5 suggests a full upgrade could be on the horizon.
A quick reminder of what Bip 6 brings
The Amazfit Bip 6 made its debut in late March 2025. It’s an affordable fitness tracker with a rectangular design and lightweight build, following up on the Bip 5. The display is slightly larger and sharper this time around, you get an upgraded build, dual-band GNSS and longer battery life. Another upgrade is the latest generation BioTracker PPG sensor. That brings better accuracy, especially during workouts.
With ZeppOS 5 creeping into the picture, the Bip 6 might be in for a more significant upgrade in the months ahead.
