The new New Jersey high school basketball season has kicked off, with fans paying attention to the leading teams in the New Jersey On3 Composite Ranking. This is how the rankings shaped up after the initial round of matches, featuring four teams breaking into the nationwide top 100.

The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking utilizes a proprietary formula that aggregates rankings published by acknowledged High School media and data firms. It encompasses Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, forming the most thorough and regionally balanced High School Team Ranking in the industry.

The leading team in New Jersey high school basketball wrapped up the 2023-24 season with a 29-3 tally. This record includes an unblemished 9-0 in the Big North-United League. They maintained a home-winning streak last year and clinched seven away victories. The 40th-ranked team nationally will commence their season against Northern Highlands on Dec. 19. With Dylan Harper advancing to college, Keiner Asprilla is set to be their standout player.

The Crusaders concluded last season with a 22-8 overall record. They captured seven out of nine contests in the Big North United, achieving a 9-2 record at home. Julius Avent is expected to be one of Bergen Catholic’s key players as they kick off their 2024-25 season against Ramapo on Dec. 19.

The Purple Roses boasted a 29-2 overall mark last season, featuring an 8-0 record in Shore A-Central and remaining perfect at home with an 11-0 record. The reigning champions of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association South Jersey Non-Public B will begin their 2024-25 season against Rumson-Fair Haven on Dec. 10. Jayden Hodge will be instrumental in St. Rose’s quest to defend their title.

The Argonauts concluded the last season with a 20-7 record, suffering just one defeat in nine home outings. Rutgers Prep also emerged victorious in all six games against opponents from the Skyland-Delaware league. Furthermore, they made it to the semifinals of the South Jersey Non-Public A state tournament. This season, Jacob Canton will steer their efforts in the season opener against Phillipsburg on Dec. 16.

The Panthers ended the 2023-24 New Jersey high school basketball campaign with a 30-2 finish. They dominated the Olympic-National League, winning all 11 home games. LD Jones and the defending South Jersey Group 2 champions will launch their season on Dec. 9 against Roxborough.

The Gray Bees completed the 2023-24 season with a 22-7 record, including a strong 9-1 mark at home. They reached the quarterfinals in the North Jersey Non-Public A tournament. Their 2024-25 campaign will kick off against Arts on Dec. 17.

The Fighting Celtics achieved a perfect 9-0 during the last season. The Patrick School will open their season against St. Anne’s-Belfield School, with Brandon Lee stepping up as one of their leading players as Jaiden Glover transitions to St. John’s.

The Knights commenced their season with a thrilling 87-80 win over Peddie. College Achieve maintained their lead throughout the game after having a 40-31 advantage at halftime. Naas Hart was the standout performer with 21 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Eric Hillsman contributed with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Anthony Mauro added 18 points and three assists. College Achieve is set to compete against The Phelps School on Dec. 11.

The Marauders finished last season with a notable 26-3 record and an impressive 15-1 home record. They made it to the North Jersey Non-Public A finals but were defeated by Don Bosco Prep. Richie Rosa and St. Peters Prep will kick off their 2024-25 New Jersey high school basketball season against Colonia on Dec. 14.

The Lions completed last season with an 18-14 overall record, including a 6-3 home tally and an undefeated 6-0 record in Union County play. They reached the semifinals of the North Jersey Non-Public B state championship but ultimately lost to Morris Catholic. Roselle Catholic will start the new season against North Broward Prep on Dec. 26. Jalen Grant, Tyrease Hunter, and Ethan Mgbako will play pivotal roles in this year’s campaign.
