Newtown High School’s wrestling team began the season with an 84-0 win at Pomperaug of Southbury on December 18. The match had two forfeits and 12 pins including two by freshmen competing in their first high school matches (Owen Blair and Ryder Symes). The match began with the 215 pound weight division; results are as follows:

The cheer team stood tall, winning the SWC Championship.
Newtown’s varsity squad then competed in the 57th Annual George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament in Lowell, Mass. this past weekend. This two-day event with nearly 1,000 wrestlers from 90 teams is considered one of the toughest regular season tournaments in New England. Newtown placed five wrestlers at the tournament and came in sixth as a team: 106 — Owen Blair, fourth; 120 — Kenna Gioffre, third; 150 — Antonio Arguello, second; 157 — Jake Maddox, third; 165 — Marc Maurath, second.
