Freshmen Hailey Toney and Samantha Lincoln were named to D1Softball’s D100 Freshmen to Watch List.Softball America released its preseason Top 25 poll Monday and it sees the Red Raiders coming it at No. 9 in the country. This is the highest ranking Texas Tech has ever earned in the Softball America poll, regular-season or preseason. The previous high saw Tech ranks 11th in the poll released March 12, 2019.Much of Texas Tech’s highly-anticipated 2025 season is centered around the No. 1 transfer class that Glasco assembled after being named head coach and the No. 2 recruiting class he was able to keep together.

Gerry Glasco, NiJaree Canady and the Texas Tech softball team are already making history and the 2025 season is still a month away.

Texas Tech begins the 2025 season Feb. 6-9 by participating in the NFCA Leadoff Classic. The Red Raiders will take on Marshall, Mississippi State, Duke, Nebraska, Iowa and Kennesaw State.Canady is the headlining act of that transfer class. Last week, the reigning national player of the year was named a first team preseason all-American and ranked the No. 1 player in the country in Softball America’s Top 100 list. Canady led Stanford to back-to-back appearances in the Women’s College World Series, leading the country in ERA (0.65) and strikeouts (337) as a sophomore, holding opponents to a .147 batting average.
