LOS ANGELES — The top-seeded UCLA (25-2) triumphed with a 17-14 victory against No. 4 Stanford (22-5) on Saturday, earning a spot in tomorrow’s NCAA Championship at the Avery Aquatic Center. With this win, the Bruins enhance their series record against the Cardinal to 84-92.
A total of eight Bruins found the net, led by freshman Ryder Dodd, who contributed six goals and seven points overall. Redshirt sophomore Frederico Jucá Carsalade also made an impact with a hat trick against the Cardinal, marking his second of the season. Additionally, redshirt junior Chase Dodd and graduate transfer Nico Tierney each netted multiple goals.
Redshirt freshman Nate Tauscher made just his second collegiate start, playing the entire game with five saves and one steal while allowing 14 goals. A pivotal moment came when he executed a crucial save against a penalty shot from Ethan Parrish, ensuring the Bruins maintained an 11-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Stanford took an early lead, ending the first period at 5-2. Nevertheless, throughout the season, UCLA has excelled in the second quarter (with a goal differential of 119-67 prior to this matchup), and this game was no exception as they secured a 5-2 win in the quarter, tying the game at 7-7 at halftime.
The Bruins continued their momentum into the third quarter, outscoring Stanford 4-3 to lead 11-10 going into the final period. UCLA further extended their advantage in the fourth quarter, outpacing the Cardinal 6-4, culminating in a 17-14 victory.
Next Up: The Bruins are set to take on No. 2 USC tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. PST on ESPNU for the 2024 NCAA Championship. The Trojans advanced after an 18-16 overtime victory against No. 3 Fordham.
