The defensive was rock solid all night as freshmen Hailey Toney and Bailey Lindemuth manned the left side of the infield and Alexa Langeliers made some nice plays over at second with Raegan Jennings having full control of first base in her first start at that position. All eyes were on NiJaree Canady as she stepped into the circle for the first time as a Red Raider and she did not disappoint. The junior threw seven strikeouts over 3.2 innings and allowed no hits to pick up the first win of the season. At the plate, Canady recorded two walks and was hit by a pitch.

UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will play No. 25 Mississippi State and Penn State tomorrow at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT, respectively.

Chloe Riassetto picked up the save, throwing 1.1 innings and sat down all four batters she faced.

Freshman Samantha Lincoln started the first game of the Gerry Glasco era and pitched a solid 2.0 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one. Lincoln was poised and in control in the circle, and showed no signs of being a freshman in her collegiate debut.

CLEARWATER, Florida – No. 10 Texas Tech took down Marshall 2-0 on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams. Tech’s pitchers combined for a one-hitter while the offense was able to draw seven walks and take advantage on the bases.

The highlight of the night came in the bottom of the third when center fielder Mihyia Davis made an amazing catch as she went over the makeshift wall in left-center field to save a potential run from scoring for the Herd.

Alana Johnson led the way offensively, going 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of singles, an RBI, run and walk while also stealing a bag. Logan Halleman picked up the other Red Raiders hit, laying down a perfect bunt down the third baseline, letting her speed do the rest.
