Will Kuhns was a bright spot for Penn State against one of the top teams in the country, hitting .450 with 13 kills and four digs. The graduate outside hitter has reached double-digit kills 11 times in his first season as a full-time starter.It was the second of two matches for the Nittany Lions at the Outrigger Invitational. They opened the event with a loss to No. 5 USC on Thursday. The Nittany Lions dipped to 5-12 on the season, while the Rainbow Warriors upped their record to 19-1 with their 10th-consecutive victory.
Set 2
Penn State played significantly better in the second set, but a late Hawaii run propelled the Rainbow Warriors to a 25-23 win. Kuhns and Luoma had five kills apiece for the Nittany Lions, while Sakanoko did a lot of the damage for the Rainbow Warriors with seven kills on .636 hitting. Penn State trailed 12-9 before going on a 4-0 run to take a 13-12 edge. Kuhns scored the first point of the run with a kill and then was at the service line for the next three points. The Nittany Lions held a two-point lead numerous times throughout the set, including as late as 23-21, but couldn’t quite pull away. Hawaii closed the set with a 4-0 run that was capped with a kill by Roure for set point.
Set 3
Roure took over in set three with seven kills on .778 hitting to lead Hawaii to a 25-12 win. Kuhns had five of Penn State’s six kills in the set. The Rainbow Warriors pulled away with a 10-0 run that put them up 18-7. They led by nine or more points the rest of the way.
HONOLULU, Hawaii – No. 19 Penn State Men’s Volleyball lost to a top-five opponent for the second time in as many days as it was defeated 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-12) by No. 3 Hawaii on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

No. 19 Penn State closes the Outrigger Invitational with a match against No. 12 Ball State on Saturday at 10 p.m. ET. The Cardinals are 13-8 overall after three straight losses to No. 9 Loyola Chicago, No. 3 Hawaii, and No. 5 USC.
Hawaii’s attack was fueled by Adrien Roure, who finished with 15 kills in addition to his seven digs. Louis Sakanoko contributed nine kills on .412 hitting.
Set 1
Hawaii used four aces to help it take the first set 25-13. The Rainbow Warriors jumped out to a 7-1 lead and went on to lead by double-digits for a large chunk of the set. The final point was scored on a triple block by Sakanoko, Justin Todd, And Tread Rosenthal.
Ryan Merk paced Penn State’s defensive effort with 10 digs. He was also a perfect 18-of-18 on serve receive.
