MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (WVUE) – Former LSU beach volleyball stars Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth pulled off back-to-back titles at one of the sport’s most iconic tournaments.

Nuss and Kloth rallied to defeat Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft in Sunday’s championship of the Manhattan Beach Open, 15-21, 21-18, 15-13.

It marks the second straight year the duo has etched their names into the pier’s legendary “Volleyball Walk of Fame,” where winners have bronze plaques mounted permanently.

The victory makes Nuss and Kloth the first women’s repeat champions since 2016-17.

Nuss, who starred at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans before joining LSU’s nationally-ranked beach program, has become a hometown favorite. Her undersized frame by volleyball standards, just 5-6 compared to Kloth’s 6-4, has made her one of the sport’s most dynamic defenders.

At LSU, Nuss and Kloth built a reputation as one of the program’s all-time best pairs before turning pro. Both later represented the U.S. as Olympians in Paris 2024.
