Over $40,000 found missing from Honey Grove Youth Sports Association
HONEY GROVE, Texas (KXII) – When the Honey Grove Youth Sports Association attempted to buy some equipment last week, their card got declined.
This caused the board members, including Chief Leigh Dixon, to raise some suspicion regarding the bank accounts. So they called the bank and were told their account was negative.
So Chief Dixon called Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and together they launched an investigation.
After looking through the association’s payment history, they found just over $46,000 missing.
Chief Dixon said this was a devastating discovery, but they owed it to the community to be transparent about where their money was going.
“It was their money that was taken so I believe we need to be transparent on where their money went and who took it,” Honey Grove Police Chief, Leigh Dixon, said.
The suspected thief was the secretary of the association and according to Chief Dixon she was arrested Wednesday morning.
Dixon said the saddest part was how much money the kids lost through this, but many people have stepped up to help with donations.
“I applaud them,” said Dixon.
Going forward the association promises to “lay eyes on statements and written reports” more often.
