LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego head softball coach Nikki Palmer announces the 2025 Triton schedule on Thursday afternoon. Facing several notable teams, the gold and blue will face BYU, Boise State, and UCLA in nonconference play and Cal state Fullerton and Long Beach State during conference play. The Big West’s inaugural conference championship will take place at the end of the season, and this is the first season the Tritons are eligible to attend.
UC San Diego will host nine schools at the Triton Softball Field in La Jolla between February and May.
” We’re thrilled about the direction our program is heading this year, with an incredible staff and a talented group of players who are ready to make their mark,” commented head coach Palmer.
The Tritons open the season Feb. 6-9 with their third annual La Jolla Invitational as they host BYU, Winthrop, and Portland State for 10 games at Triton Softball Field.
UC San Diego opens the preseason with several non-conference invitationals as they travel north to San Jose State to take on Colorado State, Santa Clara, UIC, and hosts. The northern California tournament takes place Feb. 14-16.
Following their trip north, the Tritons will head east for the Utah Tech Tournament (Feb. 21-23) where they will face Utah State, Boise State, Weber State, Idaho State, and host, Utah Tech. UC San Diego will return to the 619 to host crosstown foe, USD, before beginning conference play.
“This year’s schedule will bring great challenges, and we’re excited to face strong competition as we continue to grow and elevate UC San Diego softball,” Palmer added.
Opening the Big West season at the beginning of March, the gold and blue will host Cal State Fullerton in the conference home opener on March 7 and 8. Throughout the conference season, UC San Diego will face four nonconference members in between the weekend series. On Tuesday, March 11, the Tritons will travel to Riverside to face California Baptist for a midweek matchup.
The Big West season will continue as UC San Diego remains on the road for a three-game series at Long Beach on March 13 and 14. Returning home to La Jolla for a four-game home stand, UC Riverside will face the Tritons on March 22 and 23. The homestand will wrap against New Mexico on Tuesday, March 25.
Traveling to Bakersfield for the fourth conference series matchup of the year, the Tritons and Roadrunners will meet on March 28 and 29. The following Tuesday, UC San Diego travels to UCLA for the third nonconference match up on Tuesday, April 1.
Returning to La Jolla on April 4 and 5, UC San Diego will host UC Santa Barbara for three games. The Tritons will then head on their longest road stand during the conference season. The seven games will begin in Davis on April 11 and 12 before returning south to Cal Poly on April 18 and 19. The gold and blue will then head further south to San Diego State for a Wednesday night matchup on April 23.
UC San Diego will return to La Jolla for their final home series vs. CSUN on April 25 and 26 before the final conference series of the year in Hawai’i on May 2 and 3. The Big West’s inaugural softball championship will begin take place May 7-9. The top six teams will play in a double-elimination format at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton.
Admission to regular season home games at Triton Softball Field is free, though parking permits are required seven days per week on the UC San Diego campus.
