GRAND FORKS — Penn State coach Guy Gadowsky will serve as head coach of the NCAA all-star team that will compete in the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland, this December.

His assistants will be New Hampshire’s Mike Souza and Niagara’s Jason Lammers.

The general manager is Hockey East commissioner Steve Metcalf.

“It’s an honor to be on the inaugural staff of the U.S. Collegiate Selects and to be competing in such a prestigious tournament,” Gadowsky said. “The Spengler Cup will provide an incredible experience for the players selected and will be great for the continued exposure of college hockey outside of the United States.”

The NCAA all-star team, named the U.S. College Selects, will have 25 players. Each conference will be represented. No freshmen will be on the team.

The competition runs from Dec. 26-31. HC Davos, Team Canada, HC Fribourg-Gotteron, Sparta Praha and IFK Helsinki will compete this year.

This will be the second time an American-based select team has participated in the Spengler Cup. A U.S. squad won the tournament in 1988.
