UNK wrestling’s national title marks another milestone in the program’s storied history. The Lopers also won national championships in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2022, with this year’s title being the program’s 23rd consecutive top eight finish.
The team, fresh off its championship victory, received a police escort into town before arriving at The World Theatre, where it was honored in a celebratory event. Coaches and players signed autographs, posed for photos and shared their excitement with the crowd.
The City of Kearney also recognized the team’s historic achievement by presenting it with a key to the city.
The NCAA Division II National Champion University of Nebraska at Kearney wrestling team returned home to a hero’s welcome Sunday, greeted by fans, family and the Kearney community.
