Barely a month after Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen teamed up with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield to promote the company’s new chicken wings lineup, the fried chicken franchise has expanded to include college athletes by giving 10 players a chance to win a wings party at the end of the season.

One of those players is Earl Little Jr., defensive back for Florida State University, Men’s Journal reported. And Popeyes fans get to vote.

“I’m officially signed to the Better Popeyes NIL roster,” Little posted to Instagram on Sept. 10 with a picture of himself behind a spread of wings. “Popeyes has Better Wings now in mild and spicy, sauced and dry rub. Use my code Little 12 to score 12 wings for $12 on the Popeyes website or app!”

The promotion helps support name, image and likeness (NIL) profits for college athletes.

Until 2021, players were not permitted to receive compensation for the use of her or his NIL. Florida passed a law changing that, as did some other states, and the NCAA changed its policy.

The promotion also helps move chicken, especially since fans get a discount.

Does Popeyes have new chicken wings?

Popeyes now offering more sauces for wings with a mild base, including Ghost Pepper Dry Rub Wings, Lemon Pepper Dry Rub Wings and Sweet ‘N Spicy.

In August, Popeyes updated its chicken wing lineup with a new mild marinated sauce on bone-in wings as a base for consumers to choose the heat level they wanted. The Signature Hot, Sweet ‘N Spicy and Honey BBQ sauces are still there, but now there are Ghost Pepper, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Parm, and Buffalo dry rubs available.

Popeyes isn’t the only place for athletes to get fed. On Aug. 27, fast-food chain Chipotles Mexican Grill announced that student athletes at three schools — University of Florida, University of Georgia and Ohio State University — would get free food during the season.

“For the 2025-26 school year, every scholarship and walk-on student athlete across the three universities will receive a special, customized Chipotle card that grants them one free entrée per week for 15 weeks,” the release said.

Chipotle started this offer with Ohio State and expanded it to the other schools for this season.
