Coach Brad Waldrop and his Sylvania Rams picked up their third win of the season with a 55-14 victory over the Brindlee Mountain Lions.
Sylvania scored right off the bat with a 47-yard touchdown run from Travis Owens at the 11:12 mark of the first quarter.
After the Rams’ defense forced a punt, the offense scored again at the 7:00 minute mark when Slaytor Waldrop found Sammy Anderson on a 62-yard touchdown pass.
Sylvania was able to get another stop by its defense, and with 2:43 left in the first quarter, Seth Ledford went 59 yards on the ground. Sylvania took a 21-0 lead to the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Brindlee Mountain found the end zone at the 10:23 mark with a 6-yard touchdown pass.
Sylvania added three more touchdowns in the second quarter. The first came at the 9:25 mark with a 58-yard rushing touchdown from Owens. The second came with 5:44 left in the half when Waldrop found Ledford for a 27-yard touchdown pass. And the final touchdown of the half came with 14 seconds left as Owens added his third touchdown of the night from 5 yards out.
Sylvania took a 42-7 lead into halftime.
Brindlee Mountain opened the second half by taking the kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown to make the score 42-14 with 11:41 to go in the third quarter.
Sylvania found the end zone once with 4:23 to go in the third when Waldrop found Thomas Battles for a 3-yard touchdown pass. It was Waldrop’s third of the night in the air.
The Rams took a 49-14 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Colin Parham found the end zone for Sylvania on a one-yard touchdown run with 11:12 to go in the game.
Sylvania missed the extra point, but their defense kept the Lions out of the red zone for the rest of the game, securing a 55-14 victory.
Sylvania’s record improves to 3-6 (3-5) this season. The Rams will close the season against Pisgah on Thursday night.
