Rapid City Man Killed in Head-On Collision Tuesday – KCSR / KBPY

A Rapid City, South Dakota man died following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning near Rapid City.

Names of the those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol’s preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2022 International Truck-Tractor was traveling eastbound on I-90 near mile marker 54. At the same time, the driver of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound at the same location when he crossed the median and struck the International Truck-Tractor. The I-90 eastbound lanes shut down at approximately 7:30 a.m. At 10:15 a.m., the passing eastbound lane reopened to traffic.

The driver of the Chevrolet died from his injuries. The driver of the International Truck-Tractor was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Seat belts were determined to be used by both drivers.

All information released is preliminary.
