On Friday night, the Bears faced off against La Salle High from Pasadena and quickly demonstrated their potential, securing a 4-1 victory against the visiting Lancers.

“We aim to play with a high press, but much depends on our opponent; nevertheless, we want to control the game whenever possible,” said Makan Afzali, in his third year as head coach. “Today, we won balls in the attacking third and created numerous opportunities and shots. Can we replicate that against every other team? That’s a skill we need to develop during practice.”

Burroughs (1-1) quickly struck first.

Within the very first minute, junior Jordan Seas unleashed a right-footed shot from just outside the box that found the lower left corner, beating La Salle keeper William Thorell.

Burroughs maintained control of the midfield, with junior Seven Elkin and freshman Ian Major showcasing their creativity.

“He’s very skilled and adept with the ball. He deserved to score today,” Afzali remarked about Elkin.
In the 32nd minute, Burroughs doubled their advantage when Nicolas Di Gangi took a shot that deflected off a La Salle defender before getting past Thorell.

The Bears netted a third goal in the 49th minute when Major, while attempting a cross, inadvertently found the left corner of the net.

Burroughs extended the lead to 4-0 in the 71st minute when James Narmore struck with a left-footed shot from outside the area, following an impressive run down the left flank by Seas.

Just a minute later, La Salle proved they were still a danger, despite trailing.

Senior Miles Pryor-Gainey managed to score, ensuring the Bears wouldn’t keep a clean sheet.
