King George rising senior Callista Rash was named to the VHSL Class 4 all-state team for spring track after a podium finish at states in June.
For Rash, this comes after winning her second state championship during the winter in the girls 500, an incredibly accomplished high school career already that still has a year of time to add on to.
Whitaker also earned all-state honors as a member of Courtland’s state champion 400 relay team. It’s comprised of him, Brayden Bachiller, Daijon Edwards and Anthony Marshall, a group that broke their own school record and earned all-American honors at Adidas Nationals in June.

The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox took the wind out of the Brewster Whitecaps sails in the race for the East Division championship with a 9-3 win on the road at Stony Brook Field on Thursday.
Chris Hacopian (Maryland) went 3-for-5 and scored twice, while Jack Arcamone (Richmond) went 2-for-5, including a solo home run, and tallied three RBIs to propel the Red Sox (16-12-3) back into the win column. A.J. Nessler (Pittsburgh) drove in a pair of runs and scored once.
The Red Sox opened up a 5-0 lead before the Whitecaps (16-14-1), who have dropped two straight, were on the board in the third inning.
The Whitecaps were within two runs before the Red Sox added four insurance markers in the seventh inning behind savvy base running to push the game out of reach.
Brady Hamilton (Wichita State) and Joshua Landry combined to give up just four hits, three runs (two earned) and nine strikeouts. Hamilton earned the win after he allowed just three hits and three runs in five innings.
Brendan Lawson (Florida) and Adam Magpoc (Boston College) were a combined 0-for-6 at the plate but drove in all three runs. Lawson had two RBIs.
In other Cape Cod Baseball League action:
Cotuit Kettleers 11, Hyannis Harbor Hawks 0 (8 inn.)
The Kettleers (13-16-2) blanked the Harbor Hawks, whose playoff chances took a hit after a third straight loss.
Max Haug (George Washington) gave up just four hits and struck out two in four innings before handing the ball over to Wyatt Halvorson (Arizona State) in relief. Halvorson allowed just one hit and two walks, while he struck out six batters on his way to picking up the win on the mound.
Gabe Camacho (UC San Diego) recorded a pair of hits for the Harbor Hawks (12-16-3), who only had five hits in the game.
Cincinnati’s Jack Natili paced the Cotuit offense with a grand slam in a seven-run eighth inning. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored. Zac Von Schlegell and Caden Bogenpohl (Missouri State) both had two hits, two RBIs and scored once.
Ryne Farber (Texas State) went 0-for-2 but was walked three times and scored a trio of runs.
Wareham Gatemen 8, Orleans Firebirds 1
Behind a two-run shot from Brayden Randle (Mississippi) and a solo homer by Caden McDonald (Florida), the Gatemen scored eight unanswered runs to help extend their win streak out to three games.
Aris Rivera (Central Florida) went 3-for-3 and drew a walk, tallied three RBIs and a run scored, while Chase Krewson (Central Florida) and Christopher Ramirez (Cal Baptist) finished with identical lines, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for the Gatemen (17-14).
The Gatemen’s McDonald improved to a 3-1 record on the mound after he gave up just a hit, two walks and struck out three in five innings.
The Firebirds (15-14-2) saw their three-game win streak come to an end as they were held to just three hits and two walks. Tyler Myatt (Walter State CC) drove in the lone run in the seventh inning to break up the shutout.
Bourne Braves 6, Falmouth Commodores 5
The Braves (14-15-2) were straight back in the win column to keep pace with West Division leading Wareham.
Three Falmouth errors led directly to runs for the Braves in the opening three innings, which is where the hosts built their 6-3 lead behind a four-run second inning.
Ryker Waite (Vanderbilt) scored twice and tallied a RBI after going 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout at the plate. Fellow collegiate teammate Braden Holcomb went 3-for-4 with a RBI.
Maika Niu (Arkansas), who was 2-for-2 with a walk, drove in a pair of runs for the Commodores, while Ryan Zuckerman (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Commodores (13-17-1) left a lot of scoring chances on the base path as they went just 3-for-14 in such positions with 11 stranded runners.
Both pitching staffs settled in after the fourth inning and shut the opposition’s offense down.
Jack Brown (Louisville) gave up just two hits in 2 2/3 innings of work to grab his first win of the season. Will Whelan (Minnesota) closed the game out giving up just a hit and a walk in 2 2/3 innings to make the save.
Harwich Mariners 12, Chatham Anglers 1 (7 inn.)
Five Mariners recorded two hits as the Mariners powered past the Anglers to hold a share of the top spot in the East Division.
Liberty’s Tanner Marsh (2-for-4, one RBI, one walk) and Seton Hall’s Aiden Robbins (2-for-3, two RBIs, one walk) both scored three times for the Mariners, who scored a trio of runs in back-to-back innings to start the game to build a 6-0 lead. Robbins hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to set the tone. Kansas State’s Dee Kennedy went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Mariners (16-12-3) added a pair of runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to grab firm control of the game.
Matthew Heiberger improved to a 3-0 record with a sterling performance on the mound. He gave up just two hits, one run (earned), two walks and struck out six in five innings. The Mariners allowed just two hits and three walks total.
The Anglers (13-15-3) still have a fighting chance to make the playoffs as they’re only adrift of Orleans by three points.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Alzheimer’s Association is seeking new volunteers to help expand its reach across 52 counties in the region. Brooke Gill, a representative with the local chapter, emphasized just how vital volunteers are to their mission. “Volunteers are kind of the life of our organization because we are a volunteer-led organization,” she said. This year alone, their efforts have delivered over 151 educational programs to more than 3,000 individuals affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Gill outlined a range of volunteer roles available, from community educators and representatives to event support. “We give you the tools, the information, the scripts, everything that you need to be able to deliver this education to the community and the families,” she explained. For those less inclined toward public speaking, opportunities include staffing information tables or representing the association at local chamber events.
Education sessions are held at a variety of locations, banks, churches, community centers, and even virtually, making it accessible to anyone interested in getting involved. “We pair you up with some volunteer mentors… and we make sure one of us is there with you on your first education program,” Gill added, ensuring every volunteer is supported and set up for success.
