We asked readers at the start of the week who they thought were Stark County’s players of the year in high school boys and girls basketball as January ends and the postseason looms on the horizon.
Northwest entered the week with a two-game cushion for first place in the PAC-7, and it’s Pennington setting the tone as he averages team highs of 20.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 steals. Pennington received 46.09% of the vote to finish just ahead of Alliance’s JR Jackson, who received 43.88%. They each received more than 42,000 votes.

Senior entered the week averaging a double-double in points (20.9) and rebounds (11.3), shooting 57.8% from the field for the Mustangs. She scored her 1,000th career point last week.
