OXFORD, Ohio — The second day of the Miami University Invitational held at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center followed a similar pattern for the Miami University swimming and diving squad, as they continued to excel. After the second day, the women are leading with a score of 819 points, while the men are also in first with 852.5 points. Other standings for the women’s teams included Indiana State University (659.5) in second place and Dartmouth College (511) in third. For the men’s teams, Dartmouth College (759) placed second and Ball State University (577.5) came in third.

Event Highlights:

  • The finals for day two began with the women’s 200-yard medley relay, where the women’s A team secured first place. Madeline Padavic, Emma Schueler, Erin Szczupakiewicz, and Kaylin Herbet achieved a total time of 1:39.69. The women’s B team finished fourth, with Ella Ziegert, Natalie Gilson, McKenzie Reid, and Julia Waechter recording a combined time of 1:42.03.
  • Next up was the men’s 200-yard medley relay, where the men’s A team took home first place. Henju Duvenhage, Adrian Dulay, Scott Spear and Tegan Barrier completed the race in a total time of 1:26.32. The men’s B team also placed third. Drew Watson, Benjamin Eichberg, Jack Herczeg, and Ian Kmiliauskis achieved a total time of 1:29.64.
  • Following was the women’s 100-yard butterfly, with Szczupakiewicz finishing third and achieving a season-best time of 54.52.
  • In the men’s 100-yard butterfly, Duvenhage took the first spot, clocking in a season-best time of 46.75, while Spear placed fourth with a season-best time of 48.38.
  • Next was the women’s 400-yard IM where Ashley Sego earned fourth place with a personal best time of 4:26.59.
  • The men’s 400-yard IM followed, where Owen Hoban placed second with a personal best time of 3:57.32, and Nick Barrows finished fourth with a season-best time of 4:00.88.
  • Herbet finished third in the women’s 200-yard freestyle, achieving a season-best time of 1:48.84. 
  • Bryce Menchhofer secured third in the men’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.07, while Maguire Sheppard finished fifth, achieving a personal best of 1:38.88.
  • Gilson achieved a first-place finish in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, setting a personal best of 1:01.99, while Schueler took third with a season-best time of 1:03.00.
  • The men’s 100-yard breaststroke followed, where Eichberg placed first, matching his personal best time of 54.77. Dulay came in second with a season best of 54.84. Ian Wihebrink finished fourth with a time of 55.37.
  • Padavic took first in the women’s 100-yard backstroke, breaking her own school record set in the preliminaries with a time of 52.25, while Ziegert placed second with a time of 54.27, followed closely by Angelina Cakuls in fourth with a matching time of 54.27.
  • Duvenhage claimed first place in the men’s 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 47.12, and Drew Watson came in fifth with a personal best time of 49.28.
  • The women’s 800-yard freestyle relay followed, with the women’s A team finishing second. Szczupakiewicz, Taylor Connors, Waechter and Herbet posted a combined time of 7:29.01.
  • The swimming events of day two concluded with the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay, where the men’s A team also took second. Herczeg, Menchhofer, Kmiliauskis, and Sheppard achieved a total time of 6:40.51.
  • In the diving events, Sydney Rice finished first in the women’s one meter dive with a score of 263.20. Vivian Niekamp came in fourth with a score of 241.25.
  • Jackson Miller secured third place in the men’s one meter dive with a score of 273.40.
  • Rice also claimed first in the women’s three meter dive, achieving a score of 283.95, with Nora Kowalski taking second with a score of 263.80.
  • Miller won first place in the men’s three meter dive, posting a score of 306.90, while David Burke finished fifth with a score of 245.40.

LOOKING AHEAD: 
The Miami swimming and diving teams will return tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 6, to conclude the Miami University Invite. Preliminary heats begin at 9:30 a.m., and finals are set for 4:30 p.m.
