“We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of Ben Christman, a new member of our football program and UNLV community Ben recently joined us as a transfer student and had already made a meaningful impact on his teammates and coaches. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates during this extremely difficult time. Counseling services are being provided for anyone in need,” said UNLV Director of Athletics Erick Harper.
Before joining UNLV, Christman played at Ohio State University during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He later transferred to the University of Kentucky, where he played in 12 games over two seasons, primarily on special teams.
A highly regarded recruit, Christman was ranked among the top players in Ohio’s 2021 recruiting class—No. 3 by Rivals, No. 5 by ESPN and No. 7 by 247Sports.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, confirmed to 3News that Christman, 21, was found dead in an off-campus apartment on Tuesday morning.
Officials with UNLV noted that mental health support will be offered to those in need.
“Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing,” said UNLV’s Head Football Coach Dan Mullen in a statement. “Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program. Ben was an easy choice for our Leadership Committee as he had earned the immediate respect, admiration and friendship of all his teammates. Our prayers go out to his family and all who knew him. Ben made the world a better place and he will be missed.”
Christman, a Division I football player, recently transferred to UNLV in December.
At Revere High School, Christman was a four-star recruit and a multi-sport athlete. In addition to football, he played basketball and competed in track and field.
