The VCs who backed Dream Games just got a big payday.

Private equity firm CVC just announced that it is now the “sole equity partner” for the Royal Match and Royal Kingdom maker.

No figures were given, but the statement does confirm that “the transaction will provide liquidity to Dream Games’ initial venture capital partners who will exit after over five years”.

[Update: A source has clarified that CVC is a minority stakeholder. Bloomberg has also reported that the deal is worth $2.5bn in debt and equity, valuing the firm at $5bn.]

The deal is expected to close in Q3 2025 after the usual regulatory approvals. CVC is a private equity firm with over 140 investments in companies worldwide, including fellow gaming outfit Jagex, sports entities like Formula One and LA Liga, tech company Razer, fashion brand A Bathing Ape, watchmaker Breitling and more.

The deal comes hot on the heels of its splashy celebrity ad campaign for Royal Kingdom, starring the likes of LeBron James, Jimmy Fallon, Shakira and more.

From earlier this week: ‘How much are celebrities getting paid for mobile game ads?’

Earlier this week, we asked a few well-placed sources to estimate how much some of those celebrities cost to hire, with one suggesting LeBron James received up to $4m for his spot. More here.

Cofounder and CEO of Dream Games Soner Aydemi said of the CVC deal: “We are incredibly proud of what our team has built so far, and we’re excited to enter this next phase of growth with the support of our new investors. Their experience investing in category-leading companies, and track-record of supporting the long-term vision of founding teams, make them ideal partners as we continue to enhance our global leadership.”

Managing partner and head of CVC’s Sports, Media and Entertainment team Nick Clarry added: “Dream Games has created some of the world’s most beloved and commercially successful IP – including King Robert, King Richard & The Dark King. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with this world class management team, and help them realise their ambitious vision in the Royal Universe.”
