Prosser Trophy MAISA Team Racing Championship
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Cornell sailing team took fifth in a weather-shortened Prosser Trophy Regatta that served as the MAISA Team Racing Championship that concluded on Sunday at Navy.
The Big Red placed fifth with its 3-4 record after the first round. Round two got off on Sunday but could not be completed due to lack of wind, which meant the standings reverted to the completed round one results.
The Big Red earned wins over Fordham, Old Dominion and Hobart and William Smith, but Navy’s perfect 7-0 record against the eight-team field clinched the conference’s automatic bid to the Team Race National Championship.
Skippers Winborne Majette, Sophia Devling and Bridget Green sailed with crew mates Sophia Pearce, Sophia Mulvania and Amelia Neumann at the conference regatta. Cornell’s sailors will still have a chance to earn an at-large spot to the championship race.
Cornell returns to the water on Saturday, April 12 when it competes at the MAISA Women’s Team Racing Championship at Hobart and William Smith, while a group will also compete at Navy’s Truxtun Umstead Regatta in Annapolis, Md.
