“As a coach, I was extremely proud of the way we battled tonight. It was a very competitive game and the score does not reflect the energy or the competitiveness,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said.

Bethany King was all over the pool for San Marcos, tallying two goals, two saves and three steals in the loss. Meanwhile, Naomi Enright led the offensive attack with three goals and one assist.

The Royals are now 0-2 in pool play and will look ahead to a matchup with Corona Del Mar at Santa Barbara High next Tuesday at 5 p.m.

“I’m disappointed we lost, but I can recognize the efforts and the play that went into tonight,” Roth said. “This group has overcome a lot of adversity and would make every alumni of San Marcos very proud.

Jade Pattison was in the goal for the majority of the game and tallied a trio of blocks while Charlotte Raisin made a strong impact on both ends of the pool.

“We were in every possession in every play.  Playing without a true goalie in the most competitive division in the country is a challenge. Our girls overcame adversity and frustration and truly represented our school and community with pride, determination and resiliency.
