Santa Barbara City College Athletics has found a new home for its volleyball and basketball teams during the construction of a new Physical Education building on campus.

The Vaquero Men’s Volleyball, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball teams will play at Rob Gym on the campus of UCSB in the coming years. Fans will have to pay for parking, but not for entry to games.

Meanwhile, the volleyball squads are practicing at Page Youth Center and the basketball teams are practicing at Bishop Diego High School.

“I am very appreciative of the administrative teams at Page (Isaiah Veal and the Board), Bishop Diego (John Muller and Melinda Matsumoto), UCSB (Ashley Marsh and Liora Bregman) and here at SBCC (Chris Renbarger and Alexandra Thierjung),” SBCC athletic director LaDeane Hansten said.

“They have worked tirelessly the past few months to help us find a home and get contracts in place.”

The construction of the new Physical Education building will take approximately three years with an anticipated opening during the summer of 2028, according to Hansten.

Until then, SBCC has brought in temporary locker rooms, showers and restrooms atop La Playa Stadium for student-athlete use.

The new building, funded by the voter-approved Measure P bonds, will be four stories tall with an NCAA gymnasium, classrooms, dance and exercise rooms, a fitness center and employee offices.
