ADVERTISEMENTWhen he’s away from the station, he’s most likely lifting, finding time to golf, or taking in as much college basketball as possible, in order to complete the elusive perfect March Madness bracket.

FARGO —Scheels is giving the Fargo pickleball community a chance to improve their game or try out new equipment at its first pickleball demo.

Doors opened at 2 p.m., and eager participants quickly took to the courts. Scheels staff expressed excitement over the strong turnout.The event on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Fargo Parks Sports Center, provides a dedicated space for pickleball enthusiasts to test products and enjoy the sport.The demo event will run until 8 p.m. Those interested in attending can register at the Fargo Parks Sports Center.

Ryan McNamara joined WDAY as a reporter in late 2024. He is a native of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2024.”I think it’s really, really cool to see how people embrace the sport of pickleball. We embrace that active, healthy lifestyle. It’s a Tuesday afternoon, and here we’ve got about 75 people right out of the gate, ready to try out pickleball,” said Caryn Olson, marketing leader for Scheels.His time as a Husky included copious amounts of time spent at “The Herb” reporting on Husky hockey, or at Halenbeck Hall calling Husky basketball. He also spent two summers with the Northwoods League’s St. Cloud Rox. Along with his duties in news and sports, Ryan dons a headset for occasional play-by-play broadcasts for North Dakota and Minnesota high school sports.
