CEDARBURG, Wis. — Senior Captain Miriam ‘Mimi’ Hart brings her enthusiasm to every practice for Girls Head Basketball Coach Pat Moore.
“Mimi’s always been full of life. She’s always been the person to help with direction, help other players, help other people. She’s always very active. Steps up when we need to have some things done,” said Moore.
She’s a vocal leader and backs it up with her accolades. She earned an All-State Honorable Mention as a sophomore and participated in the WIAA State Three Point Contest.
“I do like to shoot threes,” said Hart. “That’s definitely my favorite thing.”
Cedarburg Girls Basketball Program Director Lauren Downs has only known Hart for a few months, but loves what she’s seen so far.
“Every day when we get into the gym she’s one of the first ones to say ‘hey, it’s go time,'” said Downs. “And she gets us into a practice mode where we’re effective and efficient on the floor and throughout drills, throughout scrimmages, you can hear her talking the whole time to make sure girls are doing what they need to do and they’re all having fun and enjoying their time.”
Hart is all about the experiences. She even tried volleyball for a season as a junior, just for the fun of it. But she said she owes a lot to basketball.
“It’s been so much fun. I’ve made so many memories, had so many opportunities, it’s just made me who I am honestly,” said Hart.
Off the court, Physical and Health Education Teacher Kate Halliburton said Hart brings a radiant light to her classroom.
“She has the ability to touch the lives of those around her and anyone who knows Mimi is so lucky and she doesn’t hesitate to talk to the people or get to know people who she isn’t friends with,” said Halliburton.
Hart carries a 4.42 GPA, belongs to numerous extra curricular groups including Student Council, Math Team, and helped start a Girls in Sports Club, all while also working a part-time job.
“Being busy, I thrive under chaos,” explained Hart. “The challenge is what motivates me the most.”
Her favorite courses are math and social studies. Next year she’ll attend UW-Madison to pursue either a political science or engineering degree. After that, well, it’s fun to guess.
“I see her in the most powerful women leadership role. She has a voice and she’s going to use that voice to make an impact in this world. Hands down. I know it for sure,” said Downs.
Wherever she ends up in the future, those who know her in Cedarburg expect that Mimi Hart will be successful and will have a lot of fun along the way.
