LEWISBURG, Pa. (January 9, 2025) – Mount St. Mary’s women’s water polo claimed a double over their second day opponents at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday with wins over La Salle and Mercyhurst ending in scorelines of 16-13 and 13-7 respectively. After the conclusion of their matchup with the Lakers, the Mountaineers moved to a 9-3 record on the season.
La Salle played out to a 4-2 victory in the first quarter of the Sunday opener against the Mountaineers. The Mount tried to claw their way back into the match before the halftime intermission but had to sit with a 4-3 quarter loss down 8-5 going into halftime. But a six-goal third quarter helped put the Mount in the driver’s seat while only conceding two to the Explorers heading into the last intermission. Five more goals followed for the Mount in the fourth and final quarter with a second half resurgence awarding the Mountaineers a victory in the end.
Maria Boix Pascual scored a mammoth seven goals against the Explorers while adding two assists to her season tally along with one completed steal. Beatrice Vieira, Rebecca Valentine, and Anita Radaelli all added two goals each to the Mount’s scorecard, with Radaelli adding seven assists to the match’s scorecard. Becca Enquist added seven goals to her season while in goal against La Salle.

In their afternoon matchup against Mercyhurst, the Mountaineers started the scoring push early, scoring four while only conceding one. Five more goals followed for the Mount in the final quarter before the halftime break, while the defense only let up one Lakers scoring chance. A 4-3 quarter win for Mercyhurst played out in the third quarter, but a 1-1 tie in the fourth quarter end the contest in favor of the Mount.
Anna Kegel continued her offensive efforts from Saturday’s play, scoring four and recording an assist against the Lakers. Vieira followed up her consistent play of the weekend with a hat trick and a drawn exclusion. And Leilani Horan provided a trio of assists to her teammates while scoring a goal of her own. Enquist followed up her first game of the day with an even more dominant appearance in the cage, recording 18 saves for the Mountaineers.
