SkillSync lets certified instructors earn SH1FT credentials without training fees, aiming to ease club costs and boost programming flexibility amid mounting industry challenges

SH1FT Fitness has introduced SkillSync, a program that offers certified group fitness instructors free certification across its six workout formats. The initiative is intended to reduce financial barriers for instructors and help clubs expand programming without added expenses.

Through SkillSync, instructors can submit proof of their existing certifications and receive immediate SH1FT certification in HIIT, strength, mind-body, combat, step, and indoor cycling formats. The process is managed through SH1FT’s digital training platform and instructor app, which streamlines onboarding and reduces prep time by up to 90%, according to the company.

SH1FT founder Will Brereton said SkillSync addresses a long-standing industry issue: instructors being required to retrain and pay for certifications they are already qualified to teach. “Making them pay again to prove what they already know simply doesn’t make sense—for instructors or clubs,” Brereton said. “That’s why we created SkillSync, a bold new approach to certification that’s faster, fairer, and more accessible.”

The new program aligns with SH1FT’s broader push to overhaul group fitness economics. The company operates on a license-free model, removing monthly program fees for clubs. It has also partnered with Pure Energy Music to provide rights-included music, helping clubs avoid public performance licensing costs like PPL and PRS fees.

SH1FT’s model has already been adopted by PureGym in the UK, where it deployed multiple formats across hundreds of locations. The company says this partnership demonstrates the scalability and efficiency of its approach.

SkillSync is part of SH1FT’s strategy to modernize group fitness delivery using tech-driven tools and cost-saving structures. Brereton said, “We don’t just give instructors a choreography booklet—we give them a complete system.”

SH1FT Fitness recently partnered with PureGym, the largest gym operator in the U.K., to launch eight new class formats.
