Shane van Gisbergen to run part-time for JR Motorsports in 2026
Shane van Gisbergen will return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a part-time schedule with JR Motorsports. Last week, JR Motorsports announced that van Gisbergen will drive the No. 9 car in select races during the 2026 Xfinity Series season. The Trackhouse Racing driver is limited in how many races he can run in the lower series since he is a full-time NASCAR Cup Series competitor.
In 2025, van Gisbergen competed in three Xfinity Series races with JR Motorsports, earning one win on the Chicago Street Course in July. The driver of the No. 88 Cup car only competed on road courses, and that seems to be a likely scenario for the 2026 NASCAR season.
Van Gisbergen could have won more road course events in the Xfinity Series, but Connor Zilisch’s rise in NASCAR hurt his already high chances. Now, with Zilisch becoming his teammate in the Cup Series next year, van Gisbergen could earn more victories for JR Motorsports’ No. 9 team.
