PETALING JAYA: Will Hendrawan reprise his role as coach for Lee Zii Jia in the upcoming Olympic Games cycle?
The contract of national singles coach Hendrawan has concluded with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), while Zii Jia’s current mentor, Wong Tat Meng, is set to depart at the end of this month.
Tat Meng will guide Zii Jia in his final competition at the World Tour Finals taking place in Hangzhou, China, next week.
Hendrawan has previously coached Zii Jia within the BAM framework, and they have maintained a positive working relationship.
Their paths diverged when Zii Jia opted to leave BAM in early 2022 to pursue a professional career, while the former world champion Hendrawan continued coaching Ng Tze Yong and others.
In a statement issued by Team LZJ on Friday, they indicated that Zii Jia is gearing up to commence the new season, aiming towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
He will require an effective coach to help him prepare over the next four years if he aspires to surpass the bronze medal achievement he attained at the Paris Olympic Games.
