STARKVILLE – Mississippi State softball signed Gabby Schaeffer, a two-time state champion and the second player in program history from the state of New York, in November.

Schaeffer played at Monroe-Woodbury High School in Monroe, New York. Along the way to their state titles in 2022 and 2023, Schaeffer and Monroe-Woodbury won three NYS Section 9 AA Championships and Regional Championships.

“Gabby is a talented middle infielder with smooth hands and a versatile skillset, bring her passion and work ethic from New York to the South,” head coach Samantha Ricketts said. “She’s a fierce competitor who loves to win, and her glove and bat are poised to make an immediate impact in Starkville.”

Schaeffer was named Rookie of the Year in 2022 after batting .486 as a freshman. She hit .502 the following year and was the 2023 NYS All-Star of the Year.

In her junior year, she raised her average even higher to .526, which earned her her second consecutive All-Star of the Year honor. She also played volleyball and was Monroe-Woodbury’s team MVP this fall.

“I chose Mississippi State because of the strong community and state-of-the-art facilities,” Schaeffer said.

On the travel circuit, she played with Rock Gold Manetta, which finished third at this summer’s Top Gun Invitational and won the 2023 South Carolina Diamond Classic. In 2022, Schaeffer and Rock Gold finished third at the PGF Platinum National Championship. Schaeffer hit .391 in travel ball following her freshman year and improved that mark to .418 and .431 over the next two summers.

Mississippi State softball signed six student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 13. State’s class included three players that were ranked by Extra Inning Softball as a top 15 player at their position nationally. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
