Singleton, Isebakke, Bell Garner Athletics’ Highest Yearly Awards

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State Athletics honored its student-athletes and staff for their dedication anf hard work during the 2024-25 seasons with the annual awards banquet Monday night.
Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country’s Lucy Singleton, Women’s Golf’s Tuva Marie Isebakke and Rifle’s Hayden Bell garnered the department’s three highest honors. Several other individuals and teams were honored with various awards as well.
Singleton, a senior runner, was bestowed the greatest single honor for the year as the recipient of the Laughlin-Miller Award. Isebakke was named Miss Eagle, and Bell was tabbed as Mr. Eagle.
Singleton, from Stanford, Ky., has put together one of the best single-season tack resumes in program history, securing the school record in the mile and winning the OVC indoor championship in that event. In addition to two total school records, she is the top-ranked athlete in the OVC in both the 800-meter and 1,500-meter events this year. Combined between this year’s indoor and outdoor season, she only finished outside the top eight in one race.
Isebakke, from Spydeberg, Norway, became the fourth-ever Eagle to win medalist at the OVC Championship and was honored as the league Player of the Year, the sixth-ever Eagle to earn that accolade. She helped MSU win the conference championship by an amazing 29 strokes.
From Bixby, Okla., Bell earned a spot in the NCAA Championships, where he competed in Air Rifle. He was an All-OVC performer in both Air Rifle and Smallbore and set the school Air Rifle record (598) to earn his NCAA berth.
The Female Freshman of the Year is Women’s Golfer Tavia Burgess. From Mather, Calif., she led the team in average and ranked second in the OVC. Burgess scored five top-10 finishes in 11 events.
MSU’s Male Freshman of the Year is Track and Field’s Mark Whitener. From Cincinnati, he scored program top-10 finishes in the 60-meter and 100-meter dash in his first collegiate campaign.
Each year, four victories are honored as Best Victories of the Year. This year, the top triumphs were: Women’s Golf won the OVC Championship by 29 strokes, Football ends Drake’s 17-game PFL winning streak by defeating the Bulldogs on the road, Soccer reclaims the Bluegrass Cup by defeating Eastern Kentucky and Volleyball knocks off No. 1 seed and host Southeast Missouri to reach the OVC Championship match
Eagle Elite is a peer award, voted on by fellow student-athletes. The winners were: Bella Hurley – Cheer, Lucy Singleton – CC / Track, Peighton Isley – VB / BVB, Hannah Curreri – Women’s Golf, Josh Furtado – Baseball, Antonio Guilherme – Cheer, Ryan Upp – Football and Nolan Piazza – Golf
Each year Penny Wars raises money for Hoops for Heroes to send a veteran or first responder to the OVC Basketball Tournament. Put on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the winner this year was the Rifle Team.
The Team Community Service Award goes to the program with the most community service hours per capita. The award was shared this year by Volleyball/Beach Volleyball and Cheerleading.
The Female Scholar of the Year is the female student-athlete with the highest grade-point average. It was a three-way tie between Rose Carroll – Cheer, Mady Walters – Dance and Hannah Curreri – Golf.
The Male Scholar of the Year was shared by Jacob Vogelpohl – Cross Country/Track and Field and Luke Bauer – Football.
Finally, the Team Academic Award is bestowed to the program with the highest team GPA, and it was won the by Volleyball program with a 3.7 this year.
