The creation of the non-profit organization Uphill New England moved almost as fast as an alpine touring skier cruising down a slope.

According to the group’s founder and executive director, Ed Warren, the idea was hatched in 2023 by a group of ski mountaineering racers interested in growing the sport, building community and improving uphill access at ski resorts. Though many of that core bunch, and now many of its members, are backcountry skiers, they spend a lot of time training at ski resorts so streamlined access to those places was key.
