For the rest of the winter, seven ships are scheduled to be docked around the Duluth Superior harbor.
DULUTH, Minn.– The 2024 shipping season was apparently smooth sailing for the Duluth Port Authority.
They will undergo routine maintenance to prepare for navigation.
One of those ships, the ‘Presque Isle’, arrived Friday morning at the Clure Public Marine Terminal.
The port is looking at its best tonnage with grain since 2020.
And they’re also looking forward to the next shipping season.
“Definitely a bright future for the port of Duluth Superior, and Maritime shipping on the great lakes as a whole. We’re excited to see cargo diversity increasing through this port.
It’s always going to be bulk, nonhazardous resources port primarily. Iron Ore is always going to be a huge part of it,” said Jayson Hron, Director of Communication Marketing at Duluth Port Authority.
Duluth Port Authority officials told FOX 21, Through the end of November, import and export tonnage was nearly 30 percent ahead of last season.
It has also been a good year for grain, specifically wheat, being one of the port’s leading export cargos.
