History

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Falling just short of a walk-off rally Sunday morning, Fordham University Softball fell to North Dakota State, 2-1 to close the Charleston Invitational in South Carolina.

Mallory McClellan and Sydney Wells tallied a pair of hits each on the day, part of a nine hit day for the Rams that saw just one strikeout by a Fordham player Sunday. In the circle Holly Beeman tossed her second complete game of the weekend, striking out four Bison without allowing a walk, throwing six shutout innings to close the day.

After a quiet fifth inning and the Bison posting a pair of hits in the top of the seventh, Beeman recorded her sixth consecutive scoreless frame in the circle, sending the Rams to the dish looking to walk it off to close the weekend.

Fordham heads down to the Lone Star State Feb. 14-16,  playing five games at the Bobcat Tournament hosted by Texas State. Kicking off the weekend in San Marcos, Texas, the Rams take on Stephen F. Austin and New Mexico State on Friday, ahead of two more games Saturday against SFA again and the host Bobcats. The tournament concludes next Sunday with a single game against St. Thomas (Texas).

Yet another pitchers’ duel for the fourth game in a row, North Dakota State tallied a pair of runs on three hits to take an early lead Sunday morning. Beeman settled in from there for the Rams, giving up just four hits over the next five innings without allowing a run the rest of the way.

The Rams close the opening weekend of the campaign 1-4, with a win over Charleston on Friday in their second game of the afternoon.

Getting the offense going herself to start the bottom half of the frame, Beeman knocked a single to left, followed by a bunt single from Koratsis to put two runners on. A fielder’s choice at third allowed McClellan to reach to keep the winning run on base, before the Bison tallied the final two outs to escape the Rams’ rally Sunday morning.

Ending the weekend with a team leading six hits, McClellan drove in her third RBI of the tournament – also a team-high – in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Maroon and White back within one.
