AUBURN, Ala. – Sophia Groth, a senior on the Auburn gymnastics team, was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Friday.Groth has competed in all but one meet this season, going on bars, beam and floor for the Tigers. She has helped the beam squad rank among the nation’s top 10 all year, having a 9.870 NQS and tying a career-high 9.95 this season.The two-time All-American was also just named to the 2025 SEC Community Service Team, marking three-straight years with the conference honor. Groth is also a CSC At-Large Academic All-District honoree, a three-time WCGA Scholastic All-American and a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree.Groth, a West Des Moines, Iowa product, earned her undergraduate degree in exercise science last May, graduating with a 3.92 grade-point average. She is in the process of completing her master’s in adult administration, owning a 4.0 GPA and giving her two degrees in four years at Auburn.The award goes with a wealth of accolades Groth has already accumulated throughout her career. She recently was named to the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team (Winter) and was honored as team captain, becoming the first female student-athlete to earn that title.In addition, Groth has exceled on floor, having a pair of 9.95s this year against rivals Georgia and Alabama. With her help, the Tigers defeated Alabama in Coleman Coliseum for the first time in program history in February. She owns a 9.9 NQS in the event.The honor is the first for Groth and Auburn’s third straight. In addition, it is the program’s ninth scholar award from the conference, which is the most by any school in the sport.
