Spartan Women's Tennis Has Solid Weekend At Michigan Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s tennis kicked off 2025 action sending two Spartans to compete in the Michigan Invitational this weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Spartan duo of Amara Brahmbhatt and redshirt-sophomore Hanna Tsitavets conjoined with Eastern Michigan to face off against competitors from No. 8 Michigan, No. 15 Ohio State and Texas Tech. 
 
Matches began on Friday with both Spartans competing in singles matches. Brahmbhatt faced off against a Michigan foe, Bayley Sheinin, and dominated in her match, 6-4, 6-2. 
 
Tsitavets also challenged a Michigan rival, Ava Bruno, ultimately dropping her match 6-2, 6-2. 
 
The two Spartans continued the day in a doubles match against the Texas Tech duo of Elena Daskalova/Arina Oreshchenkova. While the MSU pair put up a valiant effort against the ranked duo, they were unable to end the day with a win. 
 
Play carried out on Saturday with Brahmbhatt and Tsitavets again both competing in singles and doubles. 
 
Brahmbhatt served up another victory for the Spartans against her Eastern Michigan opponent, Marta Komar, securing her match 6-1, 6-2. While Tsitavets put up a valiant effort, she was unable to secure a win. 
 
The Brahmbhatt/Tsitavets tandem took on the No. 61 ranked Julia Fliegner/Reese Miller of Michigan in doubles. Although the Spartans were able to secure points on the highly-ranked duo, they lost the match, 6-3. 
 
Play concluded on Sunday with Brahmbhatt and Tsitavets wrapping up the tournament. Brahmbhatt competed in a final singles match against yet another Michigan competitor, Emily Sartz-Lunde, and put up another valiant effort in the game. 
 
The tournament wrapped up with the Brahmbhatt/Tsitavets duo in a contest with Ohio State’s Nao Nishino/Sophia Cisse. The match went into extra points, with both sides hosting a determined attempt to secure the match. Ohio State ended up taking the match, 7-6 (8-6). 
 
MSU women’s tennis returns to dual match play on Friday, January 17 in Spokane, Washington versus Gonzaga at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT and against Washington State on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.  
 
Michigan State hosts Xavier on Friday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Center in the Spartans’ spring home opener.
