The Department of Special Education Needs Services (SENS), under the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, will celebrate Special Education Month throughout November 2025 under the theme “Partners in Progress: Strengthening Special Education Together.”

The month-long observance will feature a series of events designed to promote awareness, celebrate student achievements, and strengthen partnerships across the Turks and Caicos Islands, including:

• National Inter-High Speech Competition – Friday, 7 November 2025, 9:30 AM to 12:30 p.m. at Beaches Turks and Caicos, showcasing the talents of students from across the islands
• Special Education Conference and Resource Expo – Thursday, 20 November 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex, bringing together educators, clinicians, parents, and community partners
• School-based celebrations – taking place on each island throughout November to recognise local achievements

The theme reflects the collaborative approach essential to advancing inclusive education, emphasising partnerships between educators, clinicians, parents, and community stakeholders in supporting children with exceptionalities.

Dr. Anya Malcolm-Gibbs, Director of Special Education Needs Services, said: “This year’s theme captures the essence of our work, which is collaboration. Whether through classroom inclusion, therapy services, or parent engagement, every success story is made possible by the partnerships we build. Special Education Month is a time to reflect, celebrate, and continue strengthening those connections that empower our students to succeed.”

Hon. Rachel M. Taylor, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, added: “The Government remains deeply committed to advancing special education and ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has access to the tools and support needed to thrive. The work being done by the SENS Department is transforming lives and paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable education system. I commend the team for their continued dedication and collaboration.”

The SENS Department continues to expand its reach and strengthen partnerships that enhance the educational experience for children with exceptionalities throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Schools, parents, and community partners are encouraged to participate in activities throughout November to celebrate the progress and potential of all learners.
