How do you think a big NFL linebacker will hold up against the quarterbacks and wide receivers? The skill players?
I think the skill players would have an inherent advantage or just maybe a higher natural skillset, but I don’t want to take that too far. Because, who knows, man, maybe these big guys can hold their own? But if I was a betting man, I would bet on the QBs and the receivers. No doubt. Then with P&G’s Battle of the Paddles taking place ahead of Complex’s Family Style Food Fest in New Orleans, what are you looking forward to experiencing there? Are you a big food person?
Yeah, this is the first Family Style I’ll be at since it started working with Complex. So I’m excited about that. And then I’m good friends with the guys over at Family Style, so I’m excited about that too. New Orleans is a big food city in itself, so I’m excited to see what people will bring out. I just got to make sure I work up an appetite on the paddles. And then, as part of this live stream, we’re giving away two Complex Shop mystery boxes. If you were able to enter to win one, which you’re not, what would be in your dream box?
I actually don’t own a copy of the new Complex print magazine. I love the spiral binding. I need that. I need the Billie Eilesh cover. I just might make a phone call after this to see if I can get one. Before the big Battle heads to NOLA for the big game, Complex caught up with Morman to talk football, table tennis, sweat suits, and his dream mystery box. Read on, then get pumped for P&G’s Battle of the Paddles presented by Lowe’s.Pro football players love table tennis. Over the past couple years, the sport has swept NFL locker rooms, with quarterbacks, corners, wideouts, running backs, tight ends, linemen, and yes, even kickers, taking up paddles and fighting it out for intra-team supremacy. And that trend hasn’t gone unnoticed, thanks in large part to Battle of the Paddles, P&G’s table tennis tournament that’s graced every big game week since Super Bowl LVII in 2023. This year, P&G is working with Complex’s Family Style Fest to bring P&G’s Battle of the Paddles Presented By Lowe’s to New Orleans and Super Bowl LIX. Complex’s own Speedy Morman and Kylie Mar will be there on the ground hosting a YouTube livestream of the tournament on February 5 at 7pm ET / 4PM PST on our main YouTube channel. During that livestream, P&G’s Battle of the Paddles Presented by Lowe’s will give away not one, but two Complex Shop mystery boxes full of fire pulled straight from our digital shelves, plus a signed football from Lowe’s Home Team athlete Drake Maye. Readers can enter their info here for a chance to win a mystery box, then should tune back into the livestream at 7PM ET / 4PM PST on February 5 to see the winners announced. Entrants need to be tuned in live to be eligible to win. That makes sense. I agree. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if some of these linemen have quick hands. So how are your own table tennis abilities? Do you think you could hop in and play with these guys?
Listen, if anybody gets hurt, if anybody needs a sub, I’m willing and able to step in. I’ll just leave it there. I want to leave some mystery.Awesome. And then you’re known for your elite sweatsuit game. You’re known worldwide for that and you even have your own line, Comf. Do you have a special sweatsuit on deck for hosting P&G’s Battle of the Paddles?
Yeah, I mean I might have to pull one from the vault just for this. This is a big deal. It’s big game week. It’s P&G’s Battle of the Paddles. I’ve got to be as competitive in terms of flyness for sure. So yeah, I might have to bring something special out.So, the cool thing about Battle of the Paddles is you have NFL athletes playing table tennis. Everybody loves to see great athletes. How do you think their pro football skills are going to transfer to table tennis?
I know that there will be no shortage of effort. Football players are amongst the most competitive people I’ve ever met. So no matter their table tennis skill levels, I’m certain that the competition will be up to par.*DisclaimerWith top players like Kirk Cousins, Drake Maye, Micah Parsons, and Chris Olave, plus Emmy-nominated sports broadcast journalist Taylor Rooks, The Bachelor star Peter Weber, and more competing for the ultimate table tennis victory, this year’s P&G Battle of the Paddles presented by Lowe’s promises to be another epic engagement. Tune in to see how the pros transfer their athletic skills from the gridiron to the table top, all backed by epic insights and commentary from Morman and Mar.For sure. And with that in mind, what are you most excited to see from these pro players there on the ground? Just that intensity or the quick hands?
Yeah, I would say intensity. Especially if they’re bigger football players. I’m excited to see them slap the hell out of these table tennis balls. Table tennis is an interesting game because kids can play it, but obviously very, very big humans can too. So it’ll be cool to see that intensity on the tables. On top of the mystery boxes, P&G and Lowe’s are serving up deals for fans looking to perfect their own game day experience at home.
