The president of the Asian Cricket Council has now been assumed by Shammi Silva, head of Sri Lanka Cricket, as announced in a statement released on a Friday.
“We are delighted to share that Mr. Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, has officially taken over the Presidency of the ACC,” stated an announcement from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
“With years of experience as the Chairman of the ACC Finance & Marketing Committee, Mr. Silva brings significant knowledge to the position,” the ACC’s media release indicated.
Silva was initially set to take office in early 2024 but opted for an extension of Jay Shah’s tenure, who has been in the position since 2021. As Shah began his presidency with the International Cricket Council, Silva assumed leadership in Asia.
“It is a tremendous privilege to lead the Asian Cricket Council. Cricket is vital to Asia, and I am eager to collaborate with all member nations to enhance the sport, support emerging talents, and strengthen the connections that bring us together through this wonderful game,” stated Silva.
Silva had a cricketing stint with the Colombo Cricket Club during the 1983/84 season, where he also served as captain. Additionally, he has been involved as a member, manager, and coach for the Sri Lanka squash national team.
