St. Cloud State Volleyball Earns Highest Preseason AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Volleyball Poll Ranking in Program History
SCSU was one of five Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) teams ranked and one of nine NCAA Central Region Teams ranked in the final top 25/receiving votes.
The Huskies have been ranked inside the Top 10 in each of the last four preseason polls (No. 3 – 2025, No. 10 – 2024, No. 7 – 2023, No. 9 – 2022) and have been in the preseason Top-20/25* a total of 10 times (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 – No. 16, 1997 – No. 21, 1996, 1995 – No. 22, 1993 – No. 22 and 1989 – No. 14). *Note – polls conducted from 1986-1991 included Top 20 and polls and 1992-current include Top 25; there were no polls in 2020.
Under the direction of Head Coach Chad Braegelmann, the program has been ranked for 69 consecutive weeks (including 45 weeks in the top 10), dating back to the 2019 season. The Huskies have spent a total of 143 weeks in the AVCA top 20/25 Poll in program history, including 70 weeks in the top 10.
During the 2024 season, St. Cloud State was ranked inside the top 12 in every poll. The Huskies began last season at No. 10 in the preseason poll and after week four, spent the remainder of the season in the top 5. In the week seven poll, SCSU tied its best ranking in program history, No. 3, and held that spot for two weeks before rising to No. 2, the highest ranking in program history for four weeks. The Huskies also tied their best final ranking – No. 5.
The Huskies begin their 2025 season with a trip to Burnaby, British Columbia and Bellingham, Washington for the Western Washington Invitational, hosted by Western Washington and Simon Fraser (B.C.) from Sept. 4-6. SCSU will play at (RV) Simon Fraser (British Columbia) before traveling to Bellingham to play No. 4 San Francisco State (Calif.), the host Western Washington and (RV) Central Washington to wrap up the four-match slate. The Huskies have played Simon Fraser three times (1-2, last in 2021), San Francisco State twice (2-0, last in 1990) and Central Washington twice (0-2, last in 2023). SCSU and Western Washington have never met on the volleyball court before.
The 2025 NSIC Volleyball season will begin with non-conference matches on Thursday, September 4 while the NSIC schedule begins September 19. The NSIC regular season champion will be determined by the 20-match conference schedule. The 2025 NSIC Volleyball Tournament shall be an eight-team tournament with the quarterfinals hosted at the top four seeds on Tuesday, November 18 and the semifinals/championship matches hosted at the highest remaining seed. The semifinals/championship matches will take place on two consecutive days between Friday and Sunday, November 21-23 with the dates of competition determined by the host institution.
