Two returning champions were upset in today’s semifinals. Ankeny’s Elyse Engebretsen edged Waverly-Shell Rock’s Camille Schult 8-7 at 125, getting two third-period takedowns to rally from a 4-1 deficit. At 135, Lexa Rozevink of Ames ended Bella Miller’s hopes of repeating by pinning the Dubuque Hempstead sophomore in 1:37.   Ankeny and Cedar Falls both have four finalists, with Ankeny entering the final night with 126 points and Cedar Falls 124. Ankeny already has a seventh-place finisher at 145 and has one wrestler going for third and another for fifth. Cedar Falls got an eighth-place finish at 135 and has another wrestler trying for third.   RRNW’s point total got a big boost when its wrestlers won eight of 11 consolation matches in today’s action. The team will have two wrestlers going for third place tonight and four trying to get fifth.   Mount Vernon has a returning champion in Libby Dix, who has pinned her way to the finals at 190.   Raccoon River-Northwest finished the daytime session with 144 ½ points and put two wrestlers in the finals, including two-time champion Katie Biscoglia at 105 pounds. Biscoglia, a junior, has pinned each of her three state tourney opponents in the first period, hiking her record to 57-1.   But Ankeny and Cedar Falls remain in contention, setting the stage for some intense championship matches inside Coralville’s Xtream Arena.    Raccoon River-Northwest has a solid lead in the Class 2A team race heading into tonight’s final session at the girls state wrestling tournament.   Lewis Central is next with 95 ½ points and Waverly-Shell Rock has 87 ½, with each putting two wrestlers in the finals. Lewis Central’s Mahri Manz is going for her second consecutive title at 145 but faces a major challenge from Southeast Polk’s Skylar Slade, the state champion at 155 two years ago. Both are unbeaten this season.   East Buchanan holds a 91-86 lead over Mount Vernon in the race for the 1A crown and both have two finalists. East Buchanan also has two wrestlers going for third place and another trying for fifth. Mount Vernon has one wrestler seeking to finish third and two others trying for fourth.   East Buchanan’s Destiny Krum has recorded three first-period pins en route to the championship match at 135, where she’ll face returning champion Colbie Tenborg of Saydel, the winner at 130 last year.   Decorah, last year’s single-class champion, is third in the 1A standings with 68 ½ points, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont has 64 ½ and Osage 63 ½.  East Buchanan and Mount Vernon are locked in a tight battle for the 1A championship in the first state tournament contested with classes.
