Stevenson Takes OMRS SportsMods Win
PETERBOROUGH, ON – Saturday, August 30 – Teams with the OMRS SportsMods paid tribute to the memory of a fallen friend with the Robert Maebrae Memorial Classic at Peterborough Speedway.
Brad Stevenson and Rick Warnes brought the field to the green flag for the 20-lap feature. Starting from the preferred groove, Stevenson’s No. 77 machine powered into the early lead and held his challengers at bay.
From the back of the grid, Chad Strawn mounted a strong charge through traffic, working his way to fourth and eventually into the top three. After nearly going the distance without a caution, a yellow flag with 19 laps complete set up a green-white-checkered finish.
Strawn grabbed second on the restart and did everything possible to put his No. 35 car in Peterborough Speedway’s victory lane for the third straight time. But Stevenson would not be denied, taking the flag-to-flag win. John Baker Jr. finished third, followed by Garrett Yake, Warnes, Ethan Thompson and Glenn Morris.
OMRS SportsMods Notebook: Robert Maebrae passed away in November 2022. His life was honoured at the track by OMRS competitors, friends and family members, including his wife, Tanis, and daughter, Nancy. Bria was unable to attend.
Qualifying heats went to Stevenson and Baker Jr. Series point leader Glenn Morris had a short night in his No. 77m car after mechanical issues forced him to the sidelines before the finish.
The OMRS SportsMods will return to Peterborough Speedway on Friday, October 10, as part of the 32nd annual Autumn Colours Classic.
