NEW ORLEANS – App State junior Ava Studney collected the season’s first Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolade and her second career Field Athlete of the Week nod on Wednesday after setting a new Holmes Center facility record in the women’s pole vault at the John Weaver Invitational on Dec. 7.

Studney recorded a clearance of 4.03m (13′ 2.5″) to clinch first in the event. Her clearance surpassed the previous Holmes Center facility record of 3.96m (13′ 0.25″), which was set in 2013. She was also named the John Weaver Women’s Athlete of the Meet for her performance. Last season, the Waxhaw, N.C. native matched the App State indoor pole vault program record of 4.06m (13′ 3.75″) on Feb. 9, 2024. The record was originally set in 2004 by Suzanne Makinson. Studney earned her first Sun Belt Indoor Field Athlete of the Week nod on Feb. 7, 2024.

Studney leads the Sun Belt, ranks third in the NCAA Southeast Region, and rounds out the NCAA’s top-10 in the women’s pole vault category.

The Mountaineers will resume the indoor season on Jan. 17-18 in Blacksburg, Va. at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
