LAS VEGAS – The Pacific swimming program competes in its second three-day invitational in as many months, setting course for the UNLV Invite from Dec. 16-18 at Jim Reitz Pool.

The Tigers last participated in the Trailblazer Invitational toward the end of November where the combined men and women secured a fourth-place team finish across 36 different events. Pacific will be one of eight programs competing in the UNLV Invite from Monday to Wednesday, joining Cal Poly, Cal Baptist, Colorado Mesa, Linfield, UCLA, Wyoming and host UNLV.

“This meet is giving us an opportunity to race programs we typically don’t race against as well as the chance to race in both preliminaries and finals,” head coach Katelyne Herrington said. “It will be competitive for us to get second swims, so we will need to be fast in the morning sessions.”

On the men’s side, junior Mattia Giurgevich and senior Mitchell Hopper will look to lead the Tigers following a strong showing at the Trailblazer Invitational. While Giurgevich earned second place in the 100 yard breaststroke and Hopper collected third place in the 100 yard butterfly, the two together helped Pacific secure a top three finish in the 200 yard medley relay at Utah Tech three weeks ago.

On the women’s side, senior Noemi Melendez and Paige Sondgeroth look to be forces in the medley relays for the Tigers as the pair guided their team to two top ten finishes in their last competition.

For the third time in the past four seasons, the Tigers are competing at the UNLV Invite. The Pacific men and women each earned a fifth place finish last year. The Tigers’ best finish at the UNLV Invite came during the 2021-22 season when the Tigers’ men’s and women’s squads placed second and third respectively.

All three days of events will begin with preliminaries at 9:30 am and finals at 5 pm to wrap up each day.
