LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. –– Florida A&M’s national championship winning golfer Taylor Bell is set to play in the 2024 Patriot All-America Invitational to finish 2024 before heading into the new year. The 54-hole amateur event held at the Wigwam Resort is the first of its kind to combine the talents of 150 nationally recognized players (84 men and 72 women) in a holiday bowl-like experience. It is the combined effort of the Arizona Golf Association, the West Valley Mavericks, the Golf Coaches Association of America, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association, and the Wigwam Golf Resort in conjunction with the tournament’s beneficiary, the Folds of Honor Foundation. The Patriot All-America Invitational features PING All-Americans from the previous season in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, the NAIA, NJCAA, and AJGA ranks, and international team members and special invitees. It takes place annually from Dec. 27-31 at The Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park. The unique aspect of this Championship is that the players also honor our military heroes. At the opening ceremony, each golfer receives and carries a commemorative PING golf bag with a fallen or wounded hero’s name, rank, and branch. Additionally, all golfers can visit Luke Air Force Base, the training center for our nation’s F-16 and F-35 fighter pilots. There, they meet with the General, fighter pilots, and crew and tour the base while participating in activities rarely seen by civilians.SMSgt Lackey graduated from Lincoln High School in 1983 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1986. He began his career as a maintenance crew chief. In 1992, he began MH-53 flight engineer training and flew on the PAVE LOW, a now retired long-range special operations and combat search and rescue helicopter. He began his training as a CV-22 flight engineer in 2006.Nearly 14 years after his death, SMSgt. Lackey and Major Randall Voas, who also perished in the crash, were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Their superior airmanship in executing an emergency landing saved the lives of two crew and fourteen service members aboard the aircraft. This was the second award for SMSgt Lackey, having already received one for actions in combat in 2002.The players carry the bag and honor that soldier throughout the week. Upon conclusion, the bags are shipped back to the player’s school, where they are auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting the Folds of Honor charity.Lackey is survived by his wife, Cassie, and sons, Brandon, Alex and Nick.—-

We are proud to share that Anne Larilahti, Senior Vice President, Sustainability at Amer Sports, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI).
Anne has led sustainability efforts at Amer Sports since 2022. As a board member, she will share her experience and help shape the direction of the sporting goods industry on key issues such as physical inactivity, sustainability, and responsible business. We talked with Anne about what this means for her, for Amer Sports, and for the future of the industry.
What is WFSGI, and why is it important for Amer Sports to be involved?
The WFSGI is a global organization that brings together companies and associations from across the sporting goods industry, from big brands to manufacturers and national federations. It’s a platform for joint action on the challenges and opportunities we all face, like promoting physical activity, advancing sustainability, and working on international trade issues facing the industry. For Amer Sports, being part of WFSGI means we can contribute to and learn from industry-wide solutions and bring our perspective into global conversations.
What will your role be as a board member?
I am honored to join the WFSGI Board as a representative of Amer Sports at this pivotal time for our industry. I will bring in perspectives from sustainability, especially on topics like decarbonization, circular business models, and inclusive access to sport. I’m also interested in how we as an industry can better connect with public health and policy stakeholders to encourage more active lifestyles.
Physical inactivity is one of WFSGI’s key focus areas. Why does that matter?
It’s a huge global issue. According to the World Health Organization, 31% of adults worldwide—that is 1.8 billion people—don’t get enough physical activity. That’s not just a statistic—it’s a global public health crisis. Physical inactivity is linked to chronic diseases, mental health challenges, and reduced quality of life. As an industry, we have both the responsibility and the opportunity to help reverse that trend. We can create more inclusive products, support community sports, and work together to remove the barriers that keep people from moving.
What are you most excited about in this role?
At Amer Sports we believe that sport has the power to drive positive change by improving health, strengthening communities, and inspiring more sustainable ways of living. I’m excited to work together to turn that potential into action with others who are passionate about the same goals. It’s a valuable opportunity for us to learn from global peers, contribute to industry-wide progress, and share how our brands are working to make sport more inclusive and sustainable.
We congratulate Anne on her appointment and look forward to the impact she will help deliver in this new role.

In 2022, Hugo Calderano vowed he would be “better than the Chinese” table tennis players – and, on Sunday, he was true to his word.

Ranked at world No 5 going into the tournament, Calderano won it the hard way as he overcame third-ranked Tomokazu Harimoto in the last eight and No 2 Wang Chuqin in the semis before beating Lin in the final.
Victory saw Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva extend his congratulations.
“Very pleased with the unprecedented feat achieved by Hugo Calderano in Macau, at the table tennis World Cup,” Lula wrote on social media. “In a tournament between 48 of the world’s best international players, the Brazilian became the first player from the Americas to reach the final and win the tournament by beating China’s Lin Shidong, the world No 1, this Easter Sunday.
“Fantastic work by a top-five-in-the-world athlete who, for almost 15 years, has been supported by the federal government’s athlete grant. Congratulations, Hugo Calderano. Immensely proud.”
