OKLAHOMA CITY – Maryland softball was defeated by Michigan, 8-0, at Devon Park on Thursday. The game was the first of a four-day stretch during which Maryland plays two games each against Michigan (21-8, 1-0 Big Ten) and Purdue. The Terps are 13-13 entering game two against the Wolverines tomorrow. Michigan opened the game scoring seven unanswered runs through the first two innings, creating a deficit Maryland could not overcome. It added a run in the fourth, beating out a throw at home plate. Despite putting a runner on base in every inning, Maryland was unable to plate a run. Bailey Murphy was the lone Terp to record a hit in the contest. She went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles.
Breaking Down The ActionMichigan pitcher Lauren Derkowsk pitched a complete game, shutting out the Terps’ batters and allowing only two hits. Derkowsk picked up her eighth win of the season.Keira Bucher entered the circle in relief, pitching 3.1 innings and surrendering three runs on three hits. She allowed just one run in the final three innings. Bri Godfrey started in the circle. She pitched 1.2 innings before Bucher took over.
