The Texas Panhandle had three teams playing in the regional final round of the high school football playoffs, with two teams advancing to the state semifinals.

West Plains and Gruver both picked up wins on Friday night to keep their seasons alive and get within one win of the state championship game in Arlington.

The Greyhounds trailed Ropes by 14 points in the first quarter, but dominated the second half to secure a win and punch their ticket to the state semifinals for the first time since 2018. In the next round, Kurt Haberthur and company will meet Muenster, who has defeated Hamlin, Wheeler, Albany and Collinsville to reach the “final four” in Class 2A Division II.

The Wolves won a tight contest against Stephenville with a crucial goal-line stand in the fourth quarter, advancing to the state semifinals for the first time since West Plains opened in Aug. 2022. Adam Cummings and company will square off against Celina in the state semifinals.

Class 2A Division II

Friday, Dec. 13

Class 4A Division I

West Plains vs Celina, 7 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium (Abilene, TX)
